With the weather you are having you need to get on the Salt soom. After late may you will be out of water. Normal effective patterns include safety-pin spinner with jig and grub tail, jig & grub, tubebait, smaller suspended minnow crank, wee craw. Concentrate between Laurelville to Richmondale. For you river muskie guys the confluence with the middle fork is a holding area for big muskie. I'm exploring a Salt Creek, Clear Creek and White River in Indiana.

maybe it is the Fifth St. I recall something about that one too. It would be interesting to see what that area would look like.

Whats this I'm hearing about the possibility of the removal of the King Ave. dam on the Olentangy near Batelle. I haven't gotten many details other than its become an item of discussion.
Anyone have something to add??

Mike, I gladly offer some suggestions for access and angling on the Salt. Its been a couple seasons since I've visited that water.
The Middle Fork is noted for it muskies. as is Gregg's Bend. Smallies are hot in April/May. We've landed a few stream walleye and big shad.
Its a great small stream to float & wade before late June.
Note that the underbrush along the stream has a population of wild pigs. They are hunt club renegades and domestic hybrids.

Its kinda bizarre. I thought the shoulder injury was going to put a serious damper on yak paddling & fishing. I'm actually finding it easier with some equipment and technique changes.
My Approach has become my #1 angling and fishing boat. I thought the Manta Ray or my solo canoes would be holding down those duties.
I may have to part with a couple more canoes.

Likewise I'm in love with my new Quantum Engergy PT casting reels. I'm love the Fireline Crystal braid on my spinning. I was always a Stren Super Braid angler. Not anymore. I'm backing up the spinning and casting with copolymer and florocarbon lines.

Eugene, Looks like you'll need your Frogg Toggs to weather the water. May see you there if you have a washout.

Wookie, I'll contact you first. Hoping to test my shoulders in the next few weeks to see "IF" Im going to be able to use a yak. Otherwise I'll reactive my canoe flotilla. I have a feeling my WW days are past me. I think I have my Nomad 8.5 & Wave Sport Super EZ sold. The Approach is a last resort. Will probably have a Pungo Classic and a Perception Acadia 125 Expedition that may follow. I'm going to keep my Manta Ray 12 for the spouse and friends that visit. Getting old and battered by the river stinks!!!

In a more normal winter/spring with more normal temps I usually will be on the river in March. Focus on the 3rd day of a warming cycle or several sunny days.
Water temps of 40-45 deg. will have the smallies moving out of or farther from wintering holes. I'll be dead sticking jigs, fuzzy grubs and small tubes as temps near 45 deg. in riffles and shallow runs.

DD I considering parting with my Approach 10 and possible other yaks. Darn! I've only had that Approach out 10 times in the last two seasons and its a joy to float and fish. The shoulders may become a limiting physical factor. I'll be returning to canoes.
As long as I can get on the water is all that waters!
Fish fear me! Women love me!

I've added two Quantum PT baitcasters (6.3:1 & 7.0:1) and a pair of Fenwick HMX rods, 6.5' & 7' . Probably florocarbon or copolymer on the former and Stren braid on the latter.
I'll continue with the Shimano Saharra or Okuma Metaloid spinning with braid and copolymer.
I'll be looking at fishing out of a canoe more to give the new shoulder additional time to strengthen.
