Spent a couple hours hiking the open waters of the Hocking River yesterday. I wished had carried a rod and gear. After the pending thaw this coming weekend I think season will be considered open for bronzebacks. The waders are out and I have a canoe that just needs it new license applied.
Are you ready?

I also will step gently. I practice a limited or managed harvest ONCE a season. I promote catch & release the remainder.

Scott, I just looked at this again. I need the spouse to read this!!! She thinks I'm a tackleaholic and boataholic. You may save my rump and selection, collection of fish-n-float gear!
Thanks!

I've heard the term or name used by a couple folks before, but never asked the definition.
I thought it may have been the odd looking bass. Some look like a natural crossbreed of spot, largemouth or stripe. Their color and patterns were definitely odd.

The next after Smallies? Panfish, rock bass or spotted bass depending on the watershed. I enjoy these on light/ultralight tackle or flyrod.

I haven't fished enough the last two years to create a short story, log or memo.
Done more paddling than angling.
Save most notes in my onboard hard drive. Knock on wood!

I take a couple smallies for an annual (once a year) sandwich. Its a managed harvest I practice.
I never harvest trophies!

Check and see if the EPA(US) is utilizing the gage.
They have access and equipment in many active and some inactive USGS gage stations.
Some stations are not real-time yet are active.

Rooster, I be wearing a brown cap with smallmouth on it.
I won't be paddling as I had my gall bladder removed yesterday. I'm off the water for about three weeks.
Stop over and test the boats and chat. I have other paddlers/anglers coming.
