Regarding habitat restoration, there is a great project planned at Middle Harbor right here in Ohio. I hoped the ODNR might have a page on such a thing, but I couldn't find one. There are a few references scattered throughout the recent annual "Ohio’s Lake Erie Fisheries" reports. If you're curious, I'll keep you posted as I have word. I may have some funding to coordinate the monitoring of the biota on the site.

Regarding encyclopedic fish ID by state, I suspect you're familiar with this work of Brian Zimmerman here in Ohio: A-Z Fish (or, I suppose more correctly, "A-Y"). Brian presented to TOSA a few years ago, when he still worked at OSU's Museum of Biological Diversity.

Here are a few other regional resources I like:

• Inland Fishes of New York (click on family names to access lists of species by family)
  
• Fish of Wisconsin Identification Database (this one has you click on anatomical features to arrive at a list of possible fishes for ID purposes; the state of Michigan kinda cheats by just linking here)
  
• Ontario Freshwater Fishes Life History Database (I like the catalogue style in which this one lays out specs by species)

It certainly would be good if ODNR did a bit better regarding publicising their ongoing projects...though a lot can be found if you comb the rather large ODNR website.

Scioto River Watershed CREP

The goal is to create 70,000 acres of filter strips, riparian buffers, wildlife habitat, wetlands, and tree plantings to reduce sediment and nutrient runoff into the river and its tributaries. As a result it will improve biodiversity in the entire watershed.
