Hey DD, I get questions from anglers looking to learn about paddling to their angling. Then paddlers that ask about learning how-to's of smallmouth angling.
Lets open up a discussion for the paddle curious, challenged and addict smallmouth anglers.
Maybe there something we can all learn and share!!
One stroke ahead, One cast beyond. Rick

I am game Rick. What exactly are you looking for in terms of info? A paddling skills discussion or how to incorporate the skills with the smallie fishing?

DD,
You know thats a good question. Maybe we can think about something to build thread on.
With the off season approaching this might be a good time to share what is out there or what we paddle/fish from.
If others get interested the questions should develope.

Its time to look at the waning season, your boating gear and your X-mas wish list. November & December and great times to scout.
With sunking leaves lining the stream bottoms, gin-clear clarity and lower water levels in time to see what you've missed! You'll be amazed at the structure you've past, fished or just didn't think existed.

The season is growing near. Its time to check out the boats, paddle, PFD and other accessories.
I Got my PFD's down and inspected and cleaned the up. I gave my wooden canoe paddle a good going over and a coat of spar varnish.
I see my solo Sawyer canoe might need skid plates added after 32 years of dedicates service. A touch of gelcoat on the hull when warmer weather comes.
Need to replace deck bungee on a couple yaks. Get the sand for last season out of the boat shoes and disinfect.
Hook up lights on the canoe trailer and inspect bearings.
Its that time!

Got out on Hocking at Logan Falls. I need bags for the Approach.
Skirt slipped and I shipped a bunch of water running the ledge below Rt. 674. WOW! Thats cold!
Had to dry out some gear.
Suggestions for bags. please?

DD, Air bags or flotation device. I have seen a pair of air/dry bags for the bow of some kayaks.
Not sure if they are all they are meant to be.
I know I need additional flotation to displace water after darn near becoming a submersible when the skirt slips.

rick i ask 2 questions. one... why is the skirt slipping off? too big, too small or something else.
second..... yes air bags do help. they will displace the water by adding air volume to your boat. where the is air there is no water. typically these are applied in the stern. occassionally the bow. some models allow for storage inside the air bags as well.

Dave, Sorry, Slow following up on all the postings.
Actually, the skirt works fine. I tend to either get the nose sucked under when surfing a modest hole or heel hard in a turn and slip the skirt off trying to avoid a wet exit.
I think I need to look at pads to stabilze hip movement.
The addition abilitiy to displace water in the yak, (esp. the bow) might mitigate a bad choice or wet ride.
