It was a great presentation last night with good turnout. The bottom line: the Scioto produces huge numbers of decent smallmouth above Greenlawn and decent numbers of spotted bass below.

I'll be there. I'll probably do dinner with Ethan beforehand and will let the BOT know.

The Ohio Smallmouth Alliance's (TOSA) monthly gatherings continue on the third Thursday of April 2011. Details: 7:00 pm, Thursday, 21 April 2011 Gander Mountain, 2644 Taylor Rd, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068, (614)856-0066Ohio's Stream Game Fish Updatewith Ethan Simmons, ODNR Division of WildlifeEthan Simmons, District 1 Fisheries Biologist, will present us with updates from the Division of Wildlife's last sample year assessing the game fish of central Ohio's streams. This last TOSA meeting of the indoor-presentation season is the highlight of the year and always an excellent venue to find out where the bigguns are to be had. I expect plenty of pictures to get us all psyched for the coming Micropterus-rich season. Be there or I will be sure to be ridiculing you!

Groovy. I made full use of my 2010 license, fishing right into 27 February. Unfortunately skunked.

Job keeps me so busy that I only fish rarely in winter, and then it's almost always steelhead. (Need to feed the smoker.) I'll be back onto the Micropterus soon enough. ...I hope.

We got a nice plug in Golo's Columbus Dispatch column. I like his description of "A sea tale about shipwreck, lost lives, lost gold and economic panic headlines the 13th annual Winter Program and Silent Auction, scheduled from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Fawcett Center at Ohio State, to benefit the school's Stone Lab."

Bad news! At the very last minute, the USSA has had to cancel their scheduled talk. I will still be there to make the announcement to any attendees in person and chat on fishing with whoever may care to. Once more, there will be no presentation by the US Sportsmen's Alliance at tomorrow's TOSA meeting! I'd be lying to say I wasn't disappointed, so I won't. I am very definitely disappointed.

A community event, and pretty peripheral to fishing, but still mightily cool and related to my day job: Announcing Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory’s 13th Annual Winter Program and Silent Auction
Special guest speaker Dr. Charles Herdendorf, Science Officer of the Columbus-America Discovery Group expedition
“Treasures of a Lost Voyage: Discovery and Exploration of the Gold Rush Steamer Central America”
SS Central America, sometimes called the Ship of Gold, was a 280-foot sidewheel steamer that operated between Central America and the eastern coast of the United States during the 1850s. She was originally named the SS George Law, after Mr. George Law of New York. The ship sank in a hurricane in September 1857, along with 400 passengers and crew and 30,000 pounds of gold, contributing to the Panic of 1857.
Free parking, admission, and refreshments. Silent Auction payment by check or cash only.
Open to the general public, but seating is limited; reserve your seat at stonelab.osu.edu/events/winter-program/.
7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011
The Fawcett Center Ohio State University Main Campus 2400 Olentangy River Rd. Columbus, OH 43210
Please feel free to post, forward, and share this announcement.
