Slight correction. These dams are scheduled for removal this summer.

Dams are DOWN - well, mostly. There's still a pretty nice drop at each spot where they went out. I tried fishing below the nelson park dam earlier this spring, it was funny, the silt was gone in the center of the stream channel, but all the rocks on the bank were still covered! Made for some pretty slick wading for a guy w/a sore knee... There was a cleanup and float trip last weekend through there but I missed it.

Mike, a friend and I floated my canoe on it real early in the spring like the first week of March. I caught a 15" smallie and we were hoping to see some toothy critters, but none showed. We floated from above those parks down to 3 creeks(I think we covered 7.8 miles). I actually caught my smallie near one of the old dams and my friend thought the creek was looking much better in most regards. He caught a 13" smallie on a musky bait down near 104.

Awesome. Regarding mitigating slick banks, one of the student clubs I advise, TerrAqua, is working with the Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries (FACT) to replant some of the recovered stream bank.

Good to hear that Eugene. My friend and I plan to do another float soon as the weather has warmed. We're hoping for a Saturday with a good flow rate. That low water stuff can be a lot of work.

Let me know how you do. My Saturdays are almost always booked way in advance, but if you don't mind company, and I happen to be free (alas, not likely), please do let me know.
