Hey guys,
I finally found my way onto this forum. Good to see those of you who made it to the meeting last week. Now, how about some advice?
Any recommendations on line for my spinning reels? I switched to P-line Evolution this past summer and it is great off the reel (low memory, no tangles) but I had more fish break off this summer than in the last five summers combined. I'm talking about 13-14 inch fish breaking 6-lb test. That ain't gonna work for me. (No, it's not user error as I've never had this problem before.)
Is fluorocarbon worth the $$? What do you guys use?
Thanks in advance,
Phil Buttress
PS - they're hitting in the Olentangy this week.

I Phil, I only use fluoro as leader material and never as a main line off the reel. I use either co-polymer lines like Silverthread Excalibur, Gamakatsu G-power or McCoy mean green all in 6 lb. tests on my spinning reels. Or I use braids like Power Pro or Suffix braid on my baitcasters. Gamakatsu G-power is one of my all time favorites and it is the best co-polymer line I have ever used, but its hard to find and I mostly order mine from www.jannsnetcraft.com/ . You can contact them and buy the G-power in 3000 yrd. bulk spools as well. Fishermans Warehouse used to carry it, but no longer do..sadly. Hope this helps, Scott PS nice to meet you at the TOSA meeting last week.

Phil- I switched to braid this year and like that. I use 15 lb/ 6lb diam or 20/8 for spinning reels. It worked well for me.

I like braided as well. either Fireline in 6 or 8 lb. Or power pro 10/2. No leader, never had a break off issue with braid due to abrasion.

I use Stren Superbraid, Silver Thread co-polymer and flourocabom on alternate spools to match the needs.
I also use flourocarbon leaders at time on the braid.

In the past I have always used Stren Clear blue mono in 6 or 8 lb. However, this year I am switching to Suffix Elite in 6 lb. I have heard great things about this line and I see it is getting some great reviews. I'll post back again in a few months and report whether it works well and I like it or if it is going in the trash.

I'm going to give the Fireline Crystal a test try against my Stren Super Braid this season. We'll see how the compare.
I may use more florocarbon leaders when the clarity or presentation requires.

so who's got the best deal on powerpro these days? i see its up to 25 bucks for 300 yards. i can get 3 reels done with that mabye. 2 would be better. i may go back to p-line if ppro doesnt go on sale somewhere.

Here's my take on a couple common lines.
Cheapest on the powerpro still seems to be walmart, sometimes they have it marked down pretty well. I use it on one spinning rod, mostly for places where I think I'm probably going to hang up.
I use 8lb even in clear water still, so 2 years ago I switched to a Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon as my main line. The Vanish is yellow, supposed to be invisible underwater. Don't know if that really works cause I'm not a fish...The line is stiff, but I had very little problem cause I use a reel with a pretty wide spool. It's really tough line.
clear/blue stren I also used to use all the time but the Vanish is a little tougher.
I don't like the Cajun Red line. It seems to break too easy in lower lb test.

this is gonna sound crazy but i still use mono, bass pro excel yes i know it stretches holds water etc etc. but when you can buy 1500yds at 6 bucks and have never broke a fish off from 20" smallies that run full steam and break water 3 or 4 times in broken creek bed, boulders, rock etc just my thoughts ohh that would be 6pd test for 3 years.
